How we choose installers

How we choose our installer partners

Finding an installer can be one of the hardest parts of planning a home upgrade. Upgrade My Home aims to make that step easier by working with a carefully selected network of participating installers and reviewing enquiries against relevant criteria.

A curated network

We do not add every installer to the network

Installer participation is reviewed before a business is included in the network. The aim is quality and relevance rather than having the largest possible list of contractors.

This does not mean every installer in Ireland has been assessed. It means businesses that participate in the Upgrade My Home service are considered against our participation standards before homeowner enquiries may be introduced to them.

Participation standards

What we consider

We consider a range of relevant factors. The details vary by upgrade type, scheme requirements and the services a business provides.

Relevant registrations and qualifications

Where a scheme, grant or type of work requires registration or appropriate qualifications, these may form part of the review. For grant-supported solar work, SEAI registration may be relevant. SEAI registration is not an endorsement or guarantee of quality.

Insurance and business information

We may review basic company information and relevant insurance details where appropriate.

Relevant experience

We consider whether the installer has experience in the type of work homeowners are likely to request.

Service area

Installers should clearly explain where they operate so enquiries can be reviewed against geographic coverage.

Products and services

We consider the systems and services each installer offers, such as solar PV, battery storage or related work.

Customer reputation

Publicly available homeowner feedback, including online reviews, may form part of the assessment. We look for patterns rather than relying on one review or one platform.

Communication and responsiveness

How installers communicate with Upgrade My Home and homeowners may influence continued participation.

Ongoing homeowner feedback

Over time, feedback from homeowners introduced through the service may be considered when participating installers are reviewed.

Relevant matching

Suitability is about more than reputation

A reputable installer is not automatically the right installer for every homeowner. At launch, each enquiry is reviewed manually.

The review may consider the county or service area, type of home, type of upgrade, battery interest where relevant, installation timeframe, installer capacity, available services and other useful information in the enquiry.

Homeowner control

We keep the number of introductions limited

Upgrade My Home does not send homeowner enquiries to a large general list of contractors. We review the enquiry and may share it with a small number of participating installers that appear relevant to the homeowner's requirements.

A match, installer availability or a fixed number of introductions is not guaranteed.

Important limits

What participation does not mean

Participation in the network is not a guarantee of workmanship, price, availability or suitability for every homeowner.

Upgrade My Home does not guarantee

  • an installer's workmanship, price or availability
  • that every installation completed by an installer has been inspected
  • that an installer will be suitable for every homeowner
  • the terms, performance or outcome of the homeowner's contract

Continued participation

Our standards continue after an installer joins

The network is intended to be reviewed over time. Participation is not necessarily permanent.

Factors may include homeowner feedback, responsiveness, recurring complaints or concerns, continued suitability for the service, and changes in relevant registrations or services.

Why this matters

Why we take this approach

Home upgrades are significant decisions. Homeowners should not have to choose between doing all the research themselves and sending their details to a long list of contractors.

Upgrade My Home aims to provide useful information first, then make a small number of relevant installer introductions when the homeowner is ready.
